What you get

What is included in a radiator install.

Radiator installs are one part of our heating services. Whether it is one radiator or every room, each job follows the same steps, from sizing to balancing. If you are having a new boiler fitted, it is a good time to replace old radiators too, as the system is drained down anyway.

Sized to the room

We work out the heat output a room needs from its size, its windows and outside walls, and how well it is insulated. Two radiators of the same width can give out very different amounts of heat, so we size on output rather than matching the old one by eye.

Positioned to heat the room

Under a window is the traditional spot, as the radiator warms the cold air coming off the glass. Where wall space is tight, a vertical radiator or a different wall may suit better. We also look at what will sit in front of it, since a sofa or long curtains hold the heat back.

Valves and TRVs

A thermostatic radiator valve on one side lets you set each room to its own temperature, and a lockshield valve on the other is used to balance the system. We fit valves that suit the radiator and the pipes coming up through the floor or out of the wall.

Refilled, bled and balanced

Fitting a radiator usually means draining some or all of the system. We refill it, add inhibitor to protect against corrosion, bleed out the air and balance the radiators so the far rooms heat as well as the ones nearest the boiler.

Designer and vertical radiators

Column, vertical and designer radiators in white, anthracite and other finishes. Some designer styles give out less heat than a standard panel of the same size, so we check the output against the room before you choose.

Tidy from start to finish

Dust sheets go down before any water comes out of the system, and the old radiator goes with us when we leave.

How it works

Your radiator install in four steps.

  1. Step 1: Phone call

Tell us which rooms, how many radiators, and whether they replace old ones or go somewhere new. A photo of the room helps.

  2. Step 2: Survey and quote

We measure the rooms, look at the pipework and recommend sizes, styles and positions, then send a free quotation with no obligation.

  3. Step 3: Fitting

The system is drained down, the radiators and valves fitted, then the system is refilled, bled and balanced.

  4. Step 4: Handover

We check every radiator is heating and show you how the valves work before we leave.

What it costs Free quotation

The price depends on how many radiators, the style you choose and whether any pipework needs to move, so we quote once we have seen the rooms. The quotation is free, with no obligation.

Often, yes, if the old one kept the room warm. If the room was always chilly, or you have added insulation, new windows or an extension since, the old size may no longer be right. We check the output the room needs before anything is ordered.

If the new radiator is a similar width and type, the valves can often go back onto the existing pipes with small changes. A different width, a vertical radiator or a new position means altering the pipework, and we explain what is involved at the quote stage.

They can, as long as the output suits the room. Vertical radiators are useful where wall space is narrow, such as beside a door. Some designer styles trade heat output for looks, so we check the figures and may suggest a larger size or a second radiator.

A thermostatic radiator valve, or TRV, is the numbered head on the radiator valve. It opens and closes as the room warms and cools, so each room holds the level you set. TRVs work alongside your main thermostat, and the room with that thermostat is usually best left without one, or with it fully open.

Not always. A radiator that is cold at the top or the bottom usually needs bleeding, clearing of sludge or a stuck valve freeing rather than replacing, and those faults are covered by heating repairs. If it is rusting through or simply too small for the room, a new radiator is the better fix.
