What we fix

What our heating repairs cover.

Heating repairs are part of our heating services and cover everything that carries heat from the boiler to the rooms. The common faults are below.

Cold radiators and cold spots

Cold at the top usually means trapped air. Cold at the bottom or in the middle usually means sludge. Cold all over can be a stuck valve or a system that needs balancing. We find which it is before anything gets replaced.

Noisy systems

Gurgling usually means air, ticking and creaking are pipes moving as they heat up, and whistling or rushing can point to a pump set too fast or a valve partly closed. We find where the noise starts and deal with the cause.

Leaks from radiators and valves

A weeping valve, a loose joint or a radiator corroded from the inside. We stop the leak and tell you whether the radiator can be saved or needs replacing.

Pumps and valves

A tired pump leaves radiators lukewarm. On a system with a hot water cylinder, a stuck motorised valve can give you heating with no hot water, or hot water with no heating. We test the parts that move the water around and replace the one that has failed.

Pressure that will not hold

On a sealed system, pressure that keeps dropping means water is escaping somewhere, from a hidden leak to the pressure relief valve. Pressure that climbs when the heating runs often points to the expansion vessel. We find the cause rather than just topping it up.

Thermostats and controls

Heating that comes on at the wrong time, ignores the thermostat or will not switch off is often a controls fault, from flat batteries to wiring. We check the thermostat, programmer and wiring, and set them up properly.

How it works

Your heating repair in three steps.

  1. Step 1: Phone call

Tell us what the heating is doing, which rooms are affected and what the pressure gauge on the boiler reads.

  2. Step 2: Diagnosis

We look at the whole system, find the cause and tell you what it will take to put right before any work starts.

  3. Step 3: Repair and test

Once you are happy to go ahead, we carry out the repair, then run the heating to check every radiator warms up.

What it costs Free quotation

Common questions

Questions about heating repairs in Basingstoke.

Something else on your mind? Ask when we call you back, or ring 01256 805 164.

If the boiler shows a fault code, will not fire up or is leaking from the casing, start with boiler repairs. If the boiler runs but some radiators stay cold, the system is noisy or the pressure keeps dropping, the cause is often elsewhere in the system, which is what this page covers. Not sure? Describe what is happening when we call you back and we will work it out.

Bleeding lets trapped air out, but if it keeps coming back, something is letting air in or making gas inside the system. That can be a small leak, a pump problem or corrosion, which gives off gas as it goes and usually leaves sludge behind. It is worth finding the cause rather than bleeding the radiator every few weeks.

On a sealed system the pressure should stay fairly steady at the figure in your boiler manual, often around 1 to 1.5 bar when the system is cold. If you keep topping it up, water is getting out somewhere: a weeping valve, a leak under the floor, or the pressure relief valve. A pipe dripping outside near the boiler is worth mentioning to us.

With a hot water cylinder, it is often a motorised valve or a control that sends heat to the radiators but not to the cylinder, which is a heating system repair. With a combi boiler, the hot water is made inside the boiler, so the fault is more likely to be in the boiler itself.

Sometimes. If the radiator is too small for the room, a properly sized radiator install is the fix. Often, though, a cold room comes down to air, sludge or a system that needs balancing, so we check that first rather than selling you a radiator you do not need.
